Search engine

Hello all. I've got a question. For my own personal research use I've a large database which I build with GoLive. Now I would like to add some sort of search engine to it. I've looked around on the internet but all I could find were applications to be used for websites on the internet. And mine isn't. I'm not a programmer so I can't custom build something like that.
Does anyone have a solution?

Thx, but as far as I can tell these work on published websites. Mine isn't, and won't be pubished. It only exists on my comp for personal use only. See the problem? :)
Thx for the input though

Preamble: this isn't really my area, so it's very much a case of caveat, um, searcher. :)

As far as I can tell, GoLive uses MySQL as its database engine. Which is nice, as there should be a lot of stuff out there to support that.

There are free scripts such as this one that will perform a rudimentary search on your data, though the results it returns will probably be pretty poor - it won't rank them by perceived importance (context, frequency of words, etc.). phpMyAdmin or the MySQL admin tools would also work, though I don't think I'd like to use them for searching on a regular basis.

There are quite a few intranet search engines out there that may do what you want. Hopefully some of these will sort through your data more discerningly too so the good stuff floats to the top. There's a nice list of options here that's probably worth checking out (though some are pricey).

If you have a lot of money to throw at the problem, Google (and others) will sell you a local search appliance that would no doubt be excellent, though no doubt overkill too. :)

Hope that's of some use.
