I guess if you are new to the internet, and only really using it for research, and/or email, then you won't realise that you are on a sucky browser, that websites are not supposed to look like shite, and you can do much better, but yeah, they won't know unless someone tells them..

I'm wondering where firefox falls into the categories above? Would it come under netscape or other?

Ashlyn: It depends on the web usage statistics program. Most of them include Mozilla browsers to the usage numbers of Netscape users but some others show them as Mozilla.

It's just your basic stats program I think.. extreme.. just a freebie.

Many computer 'consumers' just want to get it home open the box plug it in and go, and don't give a fig about any of the technical stuff, and if it is still able to get email, surf the web, print the occasional letter, and play solitaire five years on more on, they're happy. That's why they have old browsers. Heck some folk, don't even know what a browser is, even though they are using one! That's good though, in that they don't all have to be technically savvy, as long as they can do the basics. I'm exactly that with a car. I can do the weekly checks and change the oil etc, but beyond that I want a car geek to do it for me.
